The automatic strapping mechanism is for a stack formed by a number of packets one on top of the other. The strap is passed round the stack when on a table. The stack is pressed by a preliminary compression ram moving up and down against a horizontal working surface in line with the table. A horizontal reciprocating thruster below the ram indexes the initially-compressed stack onto the table. After each forward movement, a further vertical ram presses the stack down onto the table to allow a strap to be passed round it.
