In the mfr. of thermoplastic filaments, where they are spun in a spinarette and drawn out at speeds of =3000 m/min, after they have been cooled they pass through a further heated zone. In this heated zone, the filament tension is reduced, and they have a dwell time in this zone adjusted to =0.25 x 10-3 seconds. Method is suitable for all thermoplastic filaments, but partic. for polyamides and polyesters and polypropylenes. The system gives a continuous process where the filaments are fully oriented without the need for further drawing.
