The text of any documents, e.g. books, newspapers, typewritten pages, is reprographically converter into a new text in accordance with any kind, volume and sequence of selected text parts. The new text contains a shortened text, or parts of the text of the original document (2), and/or other different contents. Narrow surface elements (10) whose height is adjustable to the respective line, and whose width is adjustable down to a single character, are selected from any parts of the document and placed behind each other as often as required, beginning from any point. They are scanned, converted into a matrix and then read out in the order of their scanning, forming a new text reprographically reproduced on paper or made visible in any way.
