Measurement of moisture content of flowing solids - using capacitance technique in diverging section with radially arranged electrodes and device to maintain solids compaction

The field lines of a condenser pass through the flowing material and are subjected to an oscillating circuit coupled to a high frequency generator. A means of compacting the material in the measurement zone is provided. The electrodes are mounted on the walls of the measurement chamber. At one side this has a screw pressure feeder to feed the material in, while on the outlet side a definite pressure is maintained. The measurement chamber is of diverging conical section. Esp. for use on tobacco or any other flowing material where moisture control is needed. Gives a method of general accuracy and applicability.
