The single-phase asynchronous machine is designed so that the presence of the starting choke increase the starting torque instead of reducing it. The starting winding (2) is connected via the starting capacitor and the coil (4) of the choke to the supply (U). The choke consists of two coils (3, 4). One of the coils is connected in parallel with the capacitor and there is a shared iron core (5). The second coil (4) and iron core form an inductance. Because the inductance is in series with the capacitor it increases the voltage across it and thereby increases the torque.
