Solid antacid gel tablets with practically no chalky taste contain (a) 5-15 wt. % of a non-toxic antacid component of pH =9; (b) 4-20 wt. % starch, flour and/or dextrin as gelling agent; (c) 20-45 wt. % glucose; (d) 30-50 wt. % extender and (e) 5-15 wt. % water. Enough antacid is liberated to liberate excess acid in the gastric juices without causing a chalky taste in the mouth.
