The artificial heart valve has a composite seating ring consisting of an outer ring (6) having a deeper section, and an inner ring (5) which is approximately hemispherical in cross section. The closure flap (1) is tilted about a hinge point (3) offset from its centre. The flap is circular and in cross section is a curve, with its concave side facing the main blood flow (HS) inlet side. The design gives a maximum blood flow.
