Damp insulation is provided on a roof support structure, with a heat-insulating layer above it. A drainage system is provided, and a layer of plant-bearing subtratum is applied on top of the heat-insulating layer. There may also be a layer of water-storing woven material above the latter, or more than one of these, with the plant substratum between them. The heat-insulating layer can have panels (4) of plastics foam, with top depressions (8, 9) for plants, and passages (13) for moisture. The plant substratum is firmly held together.
