A moving display of alpha numeric characters is based upon a matrix of light emitting diodes, it is controlled by a number of cycled shift register stages. The display has a matrix of 16 rows each of eight cell columns. The display data is held in a 256 x 8 bit memory that is accessed continuously by a 8 bit binary counter (2) operated by a 10 Hz clock generator. The eight bit output of the memory is coupled to eight pairs of 8 bit shift registers. Each time the clock generator output the information is moved from one 8 bit register to the next.
