The gripper pincers are movable in the longitudinal direction of the cross-beam and towards one another to effect the closing action of the arms. The gripper cross-beam is suspended from a support spar by means of a mobile side plate guided on the spar. The gripper pincers are coupled together and with the side plate by spacers which limit the min. and max. movement of the pincers. The pincers are supported on the cross-beam by one or more vertically flexible levelling units.
