The solar heating system has its heat collectors (8) connected by lines (9) to a heat collector (10) buried underground below the depth of frost penetration. This underground collector has a coil (2) connected by lines (11) to a heat pump (5) in turn connected by further lines (6) to the hot water tank (7). The underground coil (2) is wound in layers around an inner chamber (3) which is filled with a heat storage mass such as earth, located in the middle. This can then return heat to the system when the solar system is at a low temp. level.
