After the required cooking time the eggs are cooled down with cold water which flows into the container (4) from a water container above. The cooling water leaves the container through one or more U-shaped tubes (5). One end of the tube(s) is set just above the base of the container whilst the apex lies level with the egg tops and beneath the upper edge of the container and the other end opens out below the level of the first end onto the draining board etc. Once the eggs are cooled down they cease cooking so that they do not become harder but are maintained suitably warm by retained heat.
