In a continuous casting process where a molten metal is drawn through an open ended mould in the form of a continuous slab, a specific portion of the continuously moving slab which is passing through a second cooling station and still includes an unsolidified metal in the inner layer thereof, is subjected to a magnetic field which cooperates with an electric current conducted to the slab and produces agitation force on the fluid metal as it solidifies, thus avoiding centre porosity.
