Paper making machine having an inner and an outer endless belt, respectively, which are converging towards one another at a curved portion of their path has the outer belt provided on the inner face at the curved portion with a suction chamber in which is maintained a release vacuum pressure corresp. aprox. to that given by the formula (where p = pressure (Pa) exerted on the suspension; S = belt tension (N/m2); r = local radius of curvature (m); and Pgeod = geodetic pressure). Pref. the suction chamber is arranged at the pt. of the outer belt where the curvature commences. Relative movement between the belts and paper stock suspension is prevented or reduced to acceptable degree.
