The mechanism is intended for forming spherical objects from kneadable material, e.g. meat balls from minced meat. It comprises an endless belt driven in a given direction (A) and a shaping member which is arranged abo above this belt and actuated to move (to and fro) in a direction at right angles to the belt movement (A). The spacing between the belt and the member preferably converges and then diverges in the direction (A), the angle of convergence preferably being wider than the divergence. The stroke and/or frequency of the to and fro movement and/or the speed of the belt may be adjustable.
