The safety catch for the steering wheel lock operates to hold back the locking bolt until the ignition key is fully withdrawn from the lock. The lever has a simple bent loop (30) which protrudes out of a hole in the lock to monitor the positions of the key lock barrel. The safety catch pivots about a mounting stub (23) over which is set a simple spiral spring (32) which biases the loop towards the hole. Only two moving parts are required for the safety catch, increasing the reliability of the system.
