Antigenic peptide complexes - useful as diagnostic agents for bacterial and fungal infections etc., vaccines and immunity transfer factors

New peptide complexes (I) derived from DNA-contg. organisms have the following characteristics: (a) mol.wt. 5000; (b) they form an RNA cpd. which has an av. mol.wt. of 9000-20000 and gives a single homogeneous band when subjected to gel and acetate-foil electrophoresis; (c) pref. of intracellular origin; (d) contain Ca; (e) give a pptn. reaction with Tb3+; (f) are readily water sol.; (g) have an av. aspartic + glutamic acid content of ca. 30 mole %, base on total amino acids; (h) have a molar ratio of aspartic + glutamic acid to lysine + arginino of =1; (i) have an origin-specific amino acid compsn.; (k) have antigenic activity; and (j) have resistance-increasing activity. (I) can be used (i) for the diagnosis of bacterial and fungal injections, rheumatoid arthritis, leukaemia, etc., (ii) as vaccines, e.g. for pertussis, and (iii) as transfer factors for delayed immunity.
