The mechanism secures freight containers together or to frame or base corners, being particularly for those shipped as deck cargo. It has a pair of locking tongues on a loose connector and turned to engage in the container corner fittings. The connector is a sleeve (6) with a turning handle (11), and the tongues (8) at its ends, the distance between the tongues in the axial direction of the sleeve being adjustable. The sleeve can contain two plungers (7) sliding in the lengthwise direction, each having a tongue at one end and a lug (7a) at the other, working with end plates on the sleeve.
