In more and more countries the risks involved in the securing of freightcontainers to the decks of container ships are recognized. In a number of countries, like the USA and Japan, legislation already has been introduced to eliminate this risk of falling from a height while working on top of containers. This legislation seems to be effective to achieve container top safety. Some Member States of the European Union already consider similar European regulation too. This symposium brings together all those involved: stevedores, shipowners, dockworkers, insurers, national and multinational authorities and port authorities from a considerable number of European countries.
