Rotating die machine for forging round bars - has motor brake and free wheel drive to increase operating speed

A machine for forging round bars has a driving shaft which carries two radially oscillating rams with semi-cylindrical dies. The rams are pushed inwards as the rounded head of the ram passes over one of the surrounding rollers. After passing the roller the rams move outwards under centrifugal force, and release the bar passing through the dies, so that it can be moved forwards. To reduce operating time, the motor driving the shaft is braked at the instant the dies come together whilst a free wheel allows the shaft to continue to rotate until the bar is released.
