The fodder cage is for individual feeding of pigs. It has a device for automatically closing the rear cross wall in response to an animal entering. The device simultaneously opens the front transverse wall which releases the feed trough. There is also a transmission linkage for the two cross walls. There are spaced, fixed bearing points (3) on the top section of the two cage side walls (2). These points carry a front and rear cross wall (6, 7) be means of horizontal cross shafts (4, 5). Between these, a lever pair, rigidly connected with the cross walls (6, 7), with parallel levers (8, 9) is connected as a tow joint linkage by a coupling rod (11).
