New silaging agents contain a mixt. of (a) urea phosphate and (b) =1 metal salt of propionic and/or formic acid. Pref. molar ratio of urea phosphate to metal salt is pref. 1:1. The agents pref. additionally contain a metal salt of lactic or acetic acid, and pref. also contain CaCO3 to form CO2 by reaction with the organic acid formed during the silage process. The metal component of the salts is pref. Na, K, Ca and/or Mg. The agents advantageously additionally contain urea, mineral salts of Ca, Na and Mg, paraformaldehyde, molasses, starches and/or flour. Agents suppress the formation of undesirable microorganisms. and at the same time contain nutrients for the microflora and for the animals to which the silage is to be fed. They are stable and solid in form, and do not cause corrosion problems.
