In sorting machines, in particular for square sorting of agricultural products such as potatoes etc., a number of sieve belts (4) corresponding to the number of sorting sizes circulates on deflection rollers (5, 6 or 10, 11), the one sorting size of the product falling through the respective sieve belt (4), and the other being conveyed away laterally on the sieve belt. Here, a substantial problem consists in avoiding damage of the product despite rapid and at the same time completely correct sorting. For this purpose, each sieve belt (4) consists of a grid made of rubber with crossbars and longitudinal bars, the crossbars having an embedded core for example of spring steel in order to achieve the desired stiffness. The reinforced lateral edges of the sieve belt (4) run between the deflection rollers (5, 6 or 10, 11) in guide rails (25) which are intermittently made to vibrate by means of a drive in order to transmit shaky movements to the product to be sorted by means of the dimensionally stable cores of the crossbars. In the through-flow direction of the products, the openings of the sieve belt become increasingly larger so that the product falling through each sieve belt constitutes the smallest size extracted and can be laterally conveyed away directly below the sieve belt by removal conveyors (13 or 14).
