The machine to be controlled is mechanically coupled to the shaft (2) of a slipring assembly comprising three rings. The centre ring (1B) is complete, the two outer rings (1A, 1C) have electrically isolated sections (6A, 6B). All rings are insulated from each other and from the shaft, but a common connector (3) joins the centre ring to one segment of the other rings. Brushes (4AA, 4B, 4C) connect the rings to a control unit (M) and power supply (5). The relative position of segments and brushes give a timing sequence, as the shaft turns, to control the connected machine via the control unit (M).
