The printing blocks (1) are mounted on a movable support (2), with the film (7) being moved in a direction perpendicular to that of the support (2). The latter is secured via an adjustable screw (3) with the piston of a control cylinder (4) connected to a source of gas or liquid under pressure, so that the support (2) and printing block (1) can be impacted against the film (7), which is sandwiched between the block (1) and a support surface (8). This support surface is resiliently biased towards the film (7) by a spiral spring (9), allowing limited movement of the support surface (8) to absorb the impact. Pref. a series of printing blocks (1) are indexed past the printing station in synchronism with the movement of the film.
