Method and apparatus for the combined, continuous dyeing and printing of yarns, for the manufacture of space - dyeing - effects

1499001 Space-dyeing yarns HOECHST AG 10 March 1975 [8 March 1974] 9938/75 Heading D1L Textured polyamide yarns, for use in carpets, are space-dyed in the form of groups of hank chains by (a) impregnating the hanks 1 with aq. dye in padder 2, 3, (b) subjecting the dyed hanks to an air blast from nozzles 5 to loosen and open up the hanks, (c) printing the hanks with an aq. paste by means of embossed rollers 6 and then (d) fixing the dyes on the yarns in steamer 7. The hanks are preferably in groups of 8-10 hank chains, of length 5m and of wt. 350 gms. Following steaming e.g. at 102‹C for 4¢ mins, the hanks are cuttled in tank (12) [Fig. lb (not shown)], washed by spray (13) and in tanks (15) by passage over suction drums (16), brightened in trough (18) and then dried in suction drum drier (19) [Fig. 1c (not shown)].
