The air may be blown as a jet through the mat, and/or, as shown, sucked through by devices 20, 21, see Figs. 3, 4 (not shown) connected through a tank 33 with a vacuum pump 34. The devices 20, 21 operate cyclically, e.g. every 4 seconds, and the mat 12, which is carried on a foraminous support 11, is passed to an oven 22.
