Strata spacing seismic vel detmn for sloping inter-strata interface - in automatic process involving corrected reflections from at least three profile lines

Prodn. of a recording of the actual strata spacing velocity (i.e. the velocity of the seismic waves to and from the underground reflectors) dimensionless groups for the ground in the presence of a sloping stratum, using an automatic technique in which (a) seismic reflexions are obtained from a series of =3 seismic profile lines crossing in a common surface point, (b) the reflexion times for each reflexion, which are all common to the seismic profile lines are ascertained, (c) each reflection is corrected with respect to the inclination for those common to all profile lines in order to obtain the root mean square (r.m.s.) velocities from which a continuous and smoothed curve of r.m.s. velocity is produced, (d) an arbitrarily selected sloping Snellius Law - Layer model is fitted to the smoothed r.m.s. velocity curve so as to obtain the actual strata spacing velocities. Used in oil prospecting etc.
