Device for punching holes in card of Jacquard mechanism - has finger located on one hole to steady card as subsequent hole is punched

A device for punching holes in a control card for a jacquard mechanism comprises pref. a table across which the card is advanced and a punch element which is lowered so that a punching finger punches out a hole in the card as it advances over a hole in the table. Associated with the punch element is a stabilising element which is lowered as the punch element is lowered so that a control finger on the stabilising element locates in a previously punched hole in the card and so stabilises the card as a subsequent hole is punched by the punching finger. Holes can be punched closer together in the card thereby allowing a punch card to be produced for controlling e.g. a knitting machine to produce a finer gauge knit.
