The safey belt buckle is attached to one end (1a) of the belt the other end (3a) holding the tongue (3). This is inserted into the buckle and pushes back a slide (7), held by a ball (4) in a recess. Any shock which exceeds a level predetermined by a spring (5) and catch (6) releases the slide. A lug (34) on the slide rotates a pawl (32), which in turn releases a lever (30) which rotates so that its end (9) no longer presses against a spring loaded cam (10). A train of cams and levers is then released in sequence and a locking lever (18) release the ball (4) from its recess. The slide moves forward and disengages the belt tongue.
