摘要
Protective compsn. against irradiation is new comprising polysaccharides (PS) derived from lipopolysaccharides (LPS) which are extracted from Gram-negative bacteria after sepn. of the greater part of the lipids from the LPS. Preferred organism are Salmonella typhosa, serratia marcescens 594, Serr. marcescens 55, Serr. marcescens 62, Serr. marcescens 08 and S. minnesota 1114. The prods. are less toxic than LPS compositions which have been used for protection against radiation. Typically mice were irradiated with 700 rads of X-rays 48 hrs. after PS (10 ug i.p.) from S. minnesota 1114 had been given. 50% survived after 25 days whereas control mice were all dead at 17 days.
