The slot assembly is for fixing winding bars into axially parallel slots in a rotating machine stator. It has the bars (6, 8) separated around the circumference of the stator assembly by wedges (10) shaped so that bars and wedges form a continuous curved circular surface. The radial depth of the wedges can be adjusted (18, 20) so that the spacing between bars increases or decreases i.e. the curved surface area increases or decreases. The wedges are seated in cavities extending below the bottoms of the slots in the stator outer ring (4). The wedges are moved by thermo-retractable ties (18).
