BEAM SUPPORT FOR BAR WINDINGS OF LARGE ELECTRIC GENERATORS HAVING A STATOR CORE WITH DUAL DOVETAIL SLOTS FOR ENGAGING WEDGES

A stator 12 of a large generator includes three potential or 'P' bars 34, disposed in slots atop the armature conductors 36 in three of the stator slots 32'. The 'P' bars 34 are part of a self-excitation system for producing DC excitation power for the rotating field of the generator. Wedges 40 retain the 'P' bars and conductor bars but, since the stator tapers internally at its ends, the wedges at the ends of the stator are replaced by a beam 62 fitted into the dovetail slot. A yoke 66 is secured over the outer end of the beam. The yoke is secured to studs 58 positioned adjacent the stator slot containing the 'P' bar. A ripple spring 90 between the beam and the 'P' bar applies a radial force to securely retain the 'P' bar and the armature conductor bars in the slot. IMAGE
