Overhead cableway with tensioner - uses light counterweight prevented by locking device from rising above initially set position

The overhead cableway has a system for producing the initial tension in the driving rope, a driving pulley and return pulleys, a crab and a counterweight. To cause the driving pulley (3) to engage with the rope only a single relatively light counterweight (1) is provided placed initially in a position to suit the most favourable position of the crab (4) for the driving rope (7). A locking device (8) prevents the weight rising when the crab position is less favourable for the rope. The maximum travel distance for the crab, between two end positions, is initially determined, and over this distance the weight stays in the locked position, only sinking automatically into a lower one if the rope stretches, to maintain the minimum initial tension.
