Polishing equipment for flexible data carriers - employs rotating polishing disc of ceramic material with specified rotating speed, hardness and contact pressure

The polishing equipment is designed specifically for flexible data carriers (10) which are mounted on a backing plate (20) driven by a motor (22). Pressing on the surface of the data carrier a small rotating member which is radially adjustable relative to the data carrier. The surface polishing member is of ceramic material, pref. aluminium oxide. The backing plate (20) has a durometer hardness of 50, an elasticity of 50% and a surface smoothness from 50 to 80 AA. The rotating speeds are from 10 to 70 cm/sec. for the polisher. The contact pressure is about 4 Kp and the operational time about 17 sec.
