Edge shaping process for stainless steel plates - includes folding and rolling edge and finally pressing lip into rectangular cross-section box

The three-stage edge-deforming process may be used to produce "Louis XIII style" plates in stainless steel. The process treats the rim (3) of the plate (1), first returning it vertically at right angles then rolling it over towards the inside of the plate, and finally machine-pressing it into a rectangular hollow box formation (4). The initial vertical return may terminate in a gentle inward curve and after the second stage the edge may have an approx. circular form. The original flat rim of the plate may be provided with 'V' section grooves. The grooves define the angles of the rectangular finished rim (4) and aid the bending process.
