High flux electromagnetic pump - has three section core with air gap in on leg for pumping liq. sodium in 1.5 Tesla field

The electromagnetic pump having a 1.5 Telsa flux density is intended esp. for pumping liquid sodium. The pump is in the form of a three legged laminated core, one leg (1b) carrying the primary driving winding (3). Both this and the core centre leg (1c) are complete, the third leg (10) having an air-gap. This houses the high electrical resistivity rectangular cross-section conduit (2) carrying the liquid being pumped. The conduit is connected within a secondary winding (4) which passes between the centre and primary winding leg of the pump ensuring a high current level in the conduit. The laminations, which may be grain orientated silicon iron, are laid in the direction of magnetic flux and held by two side plates (5, 6).
