The outdoor h.v. switchgear has its components' relative positions and designs chosen to simplify servicing. The cables are laid in above ground ducting running between the switchgear components. The covers (15) of the ducting (12) are fixed to supports whilst the ducting's plates are constructed as transverse members (16) whose ends are removably fixed to the covers near the edges of the covers. The ducting is situated above ground at a height that allows operating personnel to move freely beneath but still to reach the ducting from the ground.
