Reverse extrusion press for tube mfr. - where piercing mandrel can be driven axially inside moving traverse

Reverse extrusion press using a stationary ram, and an extruder barrel fitted between the ram and a moving traverse (a) driven by a main work cylinder. One end of the barrel is closed by a die mounted on the ram, whereas the other end of the barrel is closed by a plug mounted on a glide block which can be moved at 90 degrees to the press axis on traverse (a). A piercing mandrel is located on a rod carried by a holder mounted on an auxiliary traverse (b), driven by a piston fitted coaxially in the main work cylinder; and the holder and the glide block can be driven simultaneously, because the glide block is mounted on traverse (a) which has an axial hole for the driven mandrel rod. The pref. extrusion press includes a support employed to assist loading a blank into the barrel. The invention simplifies and increases tube prodn. as compared with an earlier patent FR 2098696.
