The exhaust of a steam turbine (1) is condensed in a condenser (4) and a feed pump (6) returns the condensate to the boiler (2). The exhaust cooled in the condenser by a direct injection water cooler (17) and by an indirect heat exchanger (11). The water from the direct cooler is circulated by a pump (15) through an indirect heat exchanger (9) in a dry cooling tower (7). The water from the indirect exchanger is circulated by a pump (16) through another indirect exchanger (8) in the cooling tower. The air stream in the cooling tower flows over the exchanger (9) serving the direct cooler (17) before the exchanger (8) serving the indirect cooler (11). The combination of direct and indirect cooling makes a dry cooling tower possible for large outputs.
