The jack-operated lever system may be used on an up and over garage door (2). During motion the bottom edge of the door (2) remains horizontal and in the vertical door plane whilst the top edge follows a horizontal internal path. The ends of the legs (7) of the portal pivot about a horizontal axis on the head of the frame, and the bar (5) is fixed rotatably to the door panel (2). Two jacks (11) act on the opposite ends of the stabilizing bar (5, 7). The foot of each jack may be pinned (12) to the door beneath the bar (5) and the head of the jack is pinned (15) to an 'F' shaped lever (17).
