The door chain comprises a door chain arm (45) pivoted in a strike plate (34) fixed on the doorframe upright and a door chain casing (16) fixed on the door leaf comprising a bolt (17) with a T-shaped head (18). The bolt can move between a position in the casing and a position where the bolt head projects outside the casing and engages the door chain arm to retain the leaf in a chained position. A control part (19), shaped like a safety lock cylinder, provided with an operating button can be manually turned from the interior side of the door leaf to displace the bolt from its first to second positions and vice versa. The casing comprises a passage (23) shaped like a safety lock cylinder and the control part is mounted in the passage so as to be removable without dismantling the casing and is fixed to it by a screw (24).
