Sporting gun rifled barrel mounting - has one front and two rear mounting pad pairs and external rear sealing ring

The rifled gun barrel with a larger dia. rear part (1) which is much shorter than the smaller dia. front part (3) which is the rifled part, is designed for use with a sporting gun. Immediately ahead of the larger dia. part are two pairs of support pads (6, 7) brazed onto the sides, below the level of the centre line. Two further similar pads (8) are mounted at the muzzle end. Just in front of these two is positioned a plate spring (9) on top of the muzzle. Between the two rear pairs of pads is a gas escape hole (15) on top of the barrel. Behind the rear pair (6) is a set of grooves (11-14) around the barrel and one of which (13) carries a sealing ring (10). These grooves are of different depths to suit different guns.
