The mounting system for the barrel (1b) of an air rifle or pistol comprises a casing which fits over the rear section of the barrel and has a transverse bore (11) allowing it to be pivoted inside a fork mounted on the front of the air compression chamber (30). This consists of a molded sleeve (25) with forks (22) at the front whose rear section fits into the compression chamber. This also has forked sections (32) at the front which fit over those on the sleeve.
