Automatic weighing and sorting of post is followed by automatic franking at the correct rate. The sorting stage receives a stack of items to be posted and delivers each item singly to a weighing station. The measured value is recorded when an optical sensor is triggered by the item. The weighed item is transferred onto the franking station where it is orientated correctly in preparation for the correct rate to be stamped. Two sets of keys allow the range of postal classes to be handled to be selected and also the specific rates of postage to be used.
