Reproduction of ancient tapestries - by printing and heat-shrinking a bonded fabric to obtain uneven appearance

A base fabric with an uneven weave pattern resembling a repp is bonded with a thermoplastic synthetic material by localised application of a binder or glue, and printed with a coloured design before being submitted to heat shrinkage. A lumpy or blistered effect is achieved on the base fabric approaching the uneven appearance of ancient tapestry. Previous attempts to copy tapestry have lacked a sufficiently raised effect. The method reproduces an unevenness, or a raised effect, in addn. to the colours and design as near as possible to the original material.
