The fixing system secures a stainless steel sink-top (1) to a hollow support unit and may be used in the fabrication of kitchen units. The transverse edge of the top has down-turned edge flanges (11, 12) returned internally square to form concealed channels. A lath (2) is force fitted into the transverse channels and used to make the fixing. The lath may be in one or more pieces, may abut elastic inserts (3) against the longitudinal flanges (12) of the top (1), and projects horizontally beyond the channel. The force-fitting may be effected by using two pieces (21, 22) for lath wedged longitudinally between the elastic inserts (3).
