The pilot jet ignition used for a gas burner comprises a lighter (7) aimed at jet, over this being a shield directing the gas onto the lighter. The top of the tube (5) conveying the gas has a fixed cap (8) with an orifice (9) for the jet. Over this cap is a second cap (10), pivoted (11) by an external mechanism. Initially, this second cap is opened to shield the gas jet and brake the gas flow. After ignition, it is reclosed, the pilot flame issuing through a larger hole (12) in its top.
