Reinforced light alloy wheel - has steel insert rolled into edge of rim to provide reinforcement

The outer edges of the light alloy wheel rim are rolled over to enclose a steel insert ring (2) which provides additional reinforcing for the wheel. This protects it against damage from sharp edges. The wheel rim is for tubeless tyres and the insert is rolled into the edge by two operations. Alternately the edge may be reinforced by a steel flange ring riveted to the rim.
