Safety belt with stress detector - has tongue fixed to strap to distort or change colour under excess load

The safety belt has a detector tongue (3) fixed to the strap (2) and which is stretched when tension is applied. When the latter exceeds a predetermined amount it causes appreciable distortion of the tongue, e.g. by tearing it in half. The tongue can be sewn to the strap along opposite edges, or it can be glued to it except at a free portion where tearing takes place. A screen piece can be fixed to the adhesive before the tongue, and being in contact with a label not fixed to the strap. The tongue can be of material changing colour under stress.
